PLACENOTES is a travel guide that seeks to lead people to places that truly matter. PLACENOTES by-passes all of the ordinary, mass-produced places that now surround us. As "everywhere" looks more and more like "nowhere", we lead you to places that make you feel to be "somewhere". We guide you instead to the places that move, inspire, and amuse us, to places that linger in our memories and imagination. PLACENOTES focuses on all of layers that add up to a "sense of place"—architecture, the landscape, design, monuments, parks, streets, forms of life, geography and geology. In addition, PLACENOTES includes information about genuinely local restaurants, cafes, shops, galleries, and services.

PLACENOTES The Sea Ranch explores the internationally renowned development that stretches along the spectacular upper nine miles of Sonoma County coastline. The Sea Ranch carried a whole generation of architects, landscape architects and developers in a new direction. Central to the founders vision was an ethic, an ideal that people would come here "to live lightly on the land."
